Authors Guild files appeal of sweeping Google Books decision


This won’t come as a surprise to those who have watched the Google Books saga drag on for years, but Publishers Weekly reported Monday that The Authors Guild, which sued Google almost a decade ago over its Google Books project, has formally appealed a November court ruling that declared the project “fair use” and “an essential research tool.” Guild executive director Paul Aiken had promised to appeal the decision back in November, and told Publishers Weekly Monday that the decision was “a fundamental challenge to copyright that merits review by a higher court.”
